Spring 2012

Sioux Falls United 2012 High School rugby is a spring club sport for boys who are under the age of 19 before September 1, 2011. Grades 9 through 12 are eligible for practice and games. Boys in 7th and 8th grade can participate in practices. No experience playing rugby is necessary and we draw from all of the high schools in and around Sioux Falls.

Because rugby requires running, kicking, tackling and teamwork we feature players from all backgrounds—soccer, football, wrestling, track—one of our best fullbacks was a hacky sack guy who played no other organized sports. All you really need is the desire and dedication to play a tough game.

Indoor practice begins the first Sunday in February. For 2012, indoor practices will run from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Central Baptist Church located at 3102 West Ralph Rogers Road in Sioux Falls. Link to map: Google

Outdoor practices begin as soon as weather permits and are located at Marion Park (corner of 44th Street and Marion Road in Sioux Falls). The team stretches and warms up beginning at 5:00 pm with actual practice running from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Link to map: Google

Games are generally on Saturdays with home games played at Marion Park. Sioux Falls United is a member of Minnesota Youth Rugby and opposing teams are located in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. When travelling to away games, the team generally meets at Marion Park on the morning of the game to caravan together. We return to Sioux Falls the same night.

For 2012, dues are $75/player. This total covers rugby socks, shorts and mouth guard plus local, regional and national dues. Players will need to supply their own cleats (soccer and rugby cleats are fine, football cleats are approved as long as they do not have a single toe cleat). Travel costs are shared by the players with parents encouraged to attend.
